This year, the two teamed up to celebrate the classic cookie exchange. While some people may try to sneak a few store-bought offerings into the mix, the reality is that a homemade cookie will always be the true holiday treat. It may not be a perfect circle or the prettiest decor. But the special ingredient, love, will always trump the store-bought option.

To inspire home bakers to whip up their most creative and delicious cookie recipe for the holidays, Christina Tosi shared a sweet, festive treat that’s sure to delight everyone. Milk Bar x McCormick Candy Cane Pretzel Bark Cookie, which will be available at select Milk Bar locations on December 4th, National Cookie Day, is a perfect treat that embodies the taste of the holidays.

This holiday cookie captures what Tosi does best. It’s fun, festive and a touch nostalgic. Plus, the cookie showcases the flavors that McCormick does so well. The delicate brightness of the peppermint extract and the sweetness of the characteristic vanilla create holiday feelings.

Milk Bar x McCormick Candy Cane Pretzel Bark Cookies

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Makes 18 cookies

Ingredients:

2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure McCormick peppermint extract

1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

2 cups white chocolate chips

1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons McCormick cane sugar, divided

1 1/2 cups mini pretzels

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two half sheet pans with nonstick cooking spray or line parchment or silicone baking mats. Mix butter and sugar in a large bowl with a heavy spatula until well combined, about 2 minutes. Add egg and extracts and stir until fluffy, about 1 minute.

2. Mix flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a medium bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture and stir until well combined. Stir in the white chocolate chips, 3 tablespoons of cane sugar and mini pretzels and stir until smooth.

3. Place remaining 1/4 cup rock candy in a medium bowl. Use a 1/3-cup measuring cup or a 2 3/4-ounce cookie scoop to portion the dough into balls. Brush the dough balls with cane sugar and place them on the prepared baking pans, 5 to 7.5 cm apart.

4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Cool cookies completely on pans before serving.

Tip: Can’t get your hands on McCormick Candy Cane Sugar? Increase the proportion of McCormick peppermint extract to 1 1/2 teaspoons, stir in 2 tablespoons red sugar along with the chocolate chips, then use 1/4 cup red sugar to roll the cookies before baking.
