Mike Tyson, a former undisputed heavyweight world champion, has stated that money is not a driving force behind his upcoming fight against Jake Paul.
Tyson and Paul will face off on November 15th at AT&T Stadium in Texas, potentially in front of a massive crowd of 80,000.
The highly anticipated match was originally scheduled for July but was postponed due to a health setback for Tyson.
Despite concerns about his health, Tyson has reiterated his willingness to get back in the ring.
Tyson’s last professional fight took place in 2005 and ended in a loss to Kevin McBride.
His last win was in 2003, a first-round knockout against Clifford Etienne.
However, in 2020, Tyson took part in an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw after eight rounds.
Jake Paul, known as “The Problem Child,” has made a significant impact on the boxing world since turning professional in 2020.
His professional record is 10 wins and 1 loss, but his only loss was Tommy Fury in the previous year.
Paul’s last fight was a knockout win against former UFC fighter Mike Perry in July.
Tyson insists his return to boxing is not motivated by financial gain.
Tyson’s current income comes primarily from his cannabis ventures, and he highlights his desire to take risks by taking this fight against Paul.
“I could wait any day for a cannabis check.”
“They’re cops – to me. I’m a man; I want to go out there and put myself at risk. Sometimes I want to see who I really am. I want to see what I’m really made of. I want to perform in front of the world. For me, it’s all I’ve been able to do since I was 14. This fight will not change my life financially enough. This is exactly what I want to do.”
Tyson recently admitted that he is not in the best physical shape.
“It’s difficult to run at the moment. But in two months I will be perfect. The battle is won in the gym. Listen, I’ll do whatever helps me. “I’m going to enjoy my time here tonight with all my childhood friends and heck Jake Paul,” according to The Mirror.
Paul has been criticized since the fight was announced.
The 27-year-old refutes the assumption that financial gain is the main motivation for the fight.
“Write history. That’s what I’m all about, man. I’m a kid from Ohio. […] They will never give me credit. That’s the way it is. If I walked on water, they would say it was because I couldn’t swim. And that should make history. People think I’m going to get knocked out by this strong, powerful guy.”
