Milan’s Alvaro Morata after victory over Real Madrid: “We had to fight like lions”

Milan striker and club captain Alvaro Morata has spoken about the club’s performance against Real Madrid as he helped the Rossoneri to a 3-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Milan scored their first goal with a header from Malick Thiaw. Vinicius Jr converted his penalty to make it 1-1, but that wasn’t the end of it. Morata himself got on the scoresheet against his former club and Tijjani Reijnders tied the score with the third goal, capping a brilliant performance.

Morata spoke along Heaven after the game and he explained that the players had to fight like lions during the game and team talks were important.

He said, as relayed by MN: “What I told the boys beforehand: an important game, especially for us and then for the fans and the club. We had to fight like lions: we played a great game, a serious performance. We had moments of clarity and suffering.”

He also spoke about Rafael Leao’s impressive performance, which he achieved after spending three consecutive games on the bench.

“We never had any doubts. He must also be aware that he can make football history: he is clearly stronger than all of us.”

The win, a memorable one for Milan, helps them move up the Champions League table. They are now in 18th place in the table and have six points after four games.
