A Minnesota man who previously appeared increasingly concerned about the prospect of a Trump-led government took the lives of his wife, former partner and two sons before taking his own life.
On Thursday afternoon, authorities discovered 46-year-old Anthony Nephew dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his home on West 6th Street in Duluth, Minnesota, Daily Mail reported.
In a disturbing revelation, Nephew had already spoken about America’s mental health crisis three years ago, declaring that “breakdowns lead to suicide – or murder before suicide.”
The bodies of his wife Kathryn Ramsland, 45, and their seven-year-old son Oliver were discovered with gunshot wounds in their shared home.
Police responded to a welfare check around 2 p.m. and found Nephew’s former partner, Erin Abramson, 47, and her 15-year-old son Jacob Nephew, both deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Before the incident, the stepfamily seemed harmonious. Kathryn, known as Kat, frequently made positive social media posts about Erin, praising her baking skills and sharing videos of Oliver asking about baked goods.
Neighbors remembered Oliver fondly, with one saying: β€œHe was such a sweet little boy.”
In recent months, Nephew’s social media activity has exhibited troubling behavior, including discussions of extraterrestrial life and unusual cosmic theories. He expressed considerable concern about political developments and religious extremism.
His post in July expressed deep concerns: “My mental health and the world can no longer coexist peacefully, and a large part of the reason for this is religion.” I am terrified of religious zealots feeding me and my family their false beliefs imposition. β€œI have intrusive thoughts of being burned at the stake as a witch or crucified on a burning cross.”
Nephew had previously publicly addressed mental health issues, identifying as a “suicide survivor” in 2022 and writing a piece for the Duluth News Tribune about the importance of mental health care.
The Duluth Police Department issued a statement confirming there is no ongoing threat to the community and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
