MMA student involved in fatal 2022 crash pleads guilty

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) – A Maine Maritime Academy student who was a passenger in the 2022 accident that killed four students in Castine pleaded guilty to a felony in court Friday.

According to Ellsworth American, 22-year-old Noelle Tavares allegedly purchased the first five rounds of alcoholic beverages the night of the crash.

Tavares pleaded guilty to furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Sentencing was postponed for two years as part of a deferred sentence agreement.

The agreement prohibits, among other things, the consumption of drugs and alcohol.

If she complies, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor and she will have to pay a $500 fine.

The driver in the accident, Joshua Goncalves-Radding, was sentenced to three years in prison.
