New Pokémon projects officially teased after leaks

Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company formed an offshoot of the main organization called “The Pokemon Works,” which was first revealed through a trademark discovery. The Pokemon Works was intended to be part of the Pokemon Company’s headquarters, ensuring a close connection to ongoing Pokemon projects, but what these projects looked like was unknown. We still don’t have any names or anything concrete related to the experiences The Pokemon Works will offer, but thanks to a new, official website that’s now live, we know a little more about the new subsidiary.

As part of The Pokemon Works, The Pokemon Company is collaborating with ILCA, a Tokyo-based developer that has worked on Pokemon projects in the past. The most notable of these include Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Luminous pearl in which ILCA was involved as the main developer, but the studio also worked on it Pokemon Home which has served as a hub for Pokémon games for years.

But now The Pokemon Company and ILCA are working on something new – or maybe it’s several things? There is now a website for The Pokemon Works that is only available in Japanese, but a translation of the landing page (via DeepL) paints a picture of the collaboration.

The ongoing goal of the two Pokémon partners is to create a “rich experience” focused on Pokémon that transcends geographical and generational boundaries. That’s good news for those in the West, because unlike some other Pokemon projects that sometimes take a while to become available worldwide (assuming they even get around to it), it sounds like it will be one, that everyone can enjoy, regardless of where you are.

On the same page, Takuya Iwasaki said the plan is to create “more realistic and accessible Pokémon experiences,” although it’s unclear whether that means multiple projects or whether there’s a specific project in mind that produces different types of experiences. The teaser page only contains silhouettes of Gengar, Pikachu and Snorlax and no other notable clues.

While it’s important to note that this isn’t explicitly mentioned on the website, the major Pokemon leak that impacted GameFreak and related companies last month did bring to light something about a project between The Pokemon Company and ILCA. Evidence has been found that suggests a co-op multiplayer game codenamed “Synapse” is in the works, but little else is known about the game.

A passage on The Pokemon Works website could be a vague reference to this leak, or rather the broader leaks as a whole. Takuya Iwasaki of The Pokemon Works, who wrote the post, commented that “the road to evolution is sometimes difficult,” but that these challenging times are testing the resolve of those involved.
