New streaming TV shows and movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV, Disney+ and more

Welcome back, weekend warriors. It’s another cold and wintry weekend here in the mountains. It seems that the weather god deems fall unworthy and prefers to skip the season altogether. I wasn’t ready for snow, but what can you do?

Well, a reasonably good idea is to just stay inside! Curl up on the couch with friends and family and stream some of the new releases this weekend. To be fair, it’s a bit of a slow weekend, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing worth seeing. In fact, one of my most anticipated TV shows of 2024 is coming out on Saturday.

Check out last week’s streaming guide here.

ForbesWhat to watch this weekend: New streaming TV shows and movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV, Disney+ and more

Okay, let’s dive right in!

What’s new this weekend?

Arcane Season 2 (Netflix)

One of my absolute favorite shows on Netflix is Riot Games. Arcane based on the video game League of Legends. The really great thing about this video game adaptation is that you need absolutely no knowledge of the game to enjoy it, which is good because I’m really no expert league fan at all. But I love this show! Complex characters, great voice acting, great animation, a thrilling plot full of magic, action and adventure, and deeply personal conflicts – what’s not to love? The first three episodes of season two will air on Saturday, with three more over the next two weekends. This is unfortunately the final season of this show. It is also the most expensive animated series of all time. Wild! (This is also not a “children’s cartoon”, but clearly for older viewers.)

Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson (Netflix)

I’ll be honest here: I really don’t care about a boxing match between YouTuber Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. It’s just a weird reality TV-like thing that completely irritates me. Tyson is old. Jake Paul is. . . Well, the less we say about him, the better. Shouldn’t he at least fight someone his own age? In any case, the big fight isn’t until next weekend, but Netflix has released this three-part documentary to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the fighters as they prepare for the big fight.

Citadel: Honey Bunny (Prime Video)

Prime Video takes an interesting approach citadel Franchise. The first series – simply called Citadel-was an American spy show that was pretty much panned by critics and only marginally better received by audiences. I have to admit, I only saw one episode. Maybe I’ll take another look at it sometime. Then came Citadel: Diana It was Italian, both in setting and in language. Now Citadel: Honey Bunny takes place in India. At the moment, this is a real world-spanning spy series, and I actually think that’s pretty clever. Both spin-offs did much better with critics, so give them a try if you don’t mind dubs or subtitles.

Santa Tell Me (Peacock)

It’s not Christmas yet, but don’t tell Peacock that. The streamer has a ton of holiday stuff coming out this month and a new Hallmark Channel movie for those of you who are into that sort of thing. The film, starring Erin Krakow, is coming to Peacock on Sunday and tells the story of a woman who chooses between three suitors, all named Nick (I suspect there may be a Saint Nick thing going on). Not my thing, but a lot of people love this stuff, and as I always say, “To each their own!” May the best Nick win. . . .

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (at the Movies)

Another Christmas movie, The best Christmas competition ever is based on the book of the same name by Barbara Robinson. The story revolves around the Herdmans – the “worst children in the history of the world” – and their involvement in a Christmas pageant. This is a faith-based film directed by Dallas Jenkins (The chosen ones), so be aware of that. Obviously your mileage depends on your own beliefs. But if you like movies with the “true meaning of Christmas,” this might be just the heartwarming film to watch with your kids this holiday season.

Weekly streaming

The number of ongoing series I follow has decreased significantly in the last two weeks. Agatha all the time ended the week before last with a great season finale. I really enjoyed it Just murders in the building Season finale this week too.

We also got the season finale for Peacock‘s teacup and I wrote my review of the first season of this show. I definitely recommend it, especially if you are a fan of the classic horror film The thing. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixons The second season also ended, but with more of a whimper than a bang. Too bad.

However, there are still some shows to watch. We start with . . . .

Shrinking Season 2 (Apple TV)

I burned through the first season of shrinkage (I didn’t see it when it first came out) and am still catching up on season 2. It’s really great, although I think the first season was stronger overall. This is less of a complaint and more of an observation. I love the characters and they have so many great moments together while working out their differences. It’s super relatable in many ways. I just hope they don’t stretch it past its natural arc a la Ted Lasso. New episodes appear on Apple TV on Tuesdays.

The Penguin (HBO/Max)

I don’t recap every week The penguin But I need to write about it again soon because I’m really enjoying it. . . For the most part. I have to admit that the last episode had a few strange parts that I found a little irritating, but I can forgive some missteps when everything else is so good. Colin Farrell is fantastic as Oz Cobb, but it’s Cristin Milioti’s great performance as Sofia Falcone that really steals the show. New episodes land on HBO and Max on Sundays.

FROM (MGM)

Although I enjoyed the third season of FROM the most, I have to say that last Sunday’s episode was a real bummer. I hope things get better for the rest of the season. I still highly recommend this show to anyone who likes horror or is old fans of it Lost looking for something similar. It’s dark and mysterious and a lot of fun – and even though it’s far from perfect, I always look forward to every new episode. New episodes air Sundays on MGM+, which you can subscribe to through Prime Video.

Sweet pea (Starz)

I just realized that I’m at least one, maybe even two episodes behind sweet pea. I’ve been super busy and even though my workload in terms of shows has decreased, I’ve been more into video games and just… . Life. You know how it works. I need to catch up, though, because the Ella Purnell-directed drama about an aspiring serial killer is deliciously dark. New episodes appear Fridays on Starz. Read my thoughts on the series here.
