According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is battling a “significant AC joint sprain.”

“Surgery is possible for Lawrence, sources say, although the current plan calls for rest and rehab,” Rapoport said. “While the team calls him day to day, the description is probably more accurate week to week. Regardless of whether Lawrence plays in the future, the injury will likely limit him over the next few weeks.”

As a result, Mac Jones will be Jacksonville’s starting quarterback.

Lawrence’s health was a key focus heading into the team’s Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Rapoport reported Thursday that the signal-caller is not expected to play due to a shoulder injury and is considering “multiple options immediately and later.”

Surgery was one of those options, although it wasn’t a guarantee that he would undergo a procedure.

While the Clemson product also dealt with ankle and knee injuries last season, he appeared in 16 games after playing all 17 in each of his first two seasons in the league and was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft 2021.

That endurance helped him throw for more than 4,000 yards in 2022 and again in 2023. Lawrence has completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine games in 2024.

Jacksonville has struggled this season and will likely take another step back with its starter sidelined.

For Jones, this is a chance to prove that he remains a viable starter in the NFL.

The New England Patriots selected him with the No. 15 pick in the 2021 draft, although he never lived up to expectations and was traded to Jacksonville before the 2024 season.

Maybe the change of scenery can help him change his career in the near future.
