NFL star’s Donald Trump hat earns hefty fine from league

Nick Bosa flashed a MAGA hat during a postgame interview with NBC Sports two weeks ago, and it turns out it’s going to cost him a lot of change.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Bosa was fined $11,255 for violating the league’s uniform policy. This is reportedly the highest fine he can be given for a first-time offense. For a second offense, he could be fined up to $16,883.

The San Francisco defensive end was asked about the threat of a fine earlier this week and he said he expected it.

“It was worth it” Bosa said. “I don’t think my stance on talking about it will change. Obviously the nation has spoken and we got what we got.”

The 27-year-old star walked behind quarterback Brock Purdy, who was being interviewed after the 49ers’ 30-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 27, and pointed to a MAGA hat he was wearing.

You can see that here.

According to USA Today, NFL rules state that players are not permitted to “wear, display, or otherwise transmit messages… that relate to political activities or causes, other non-football-related events, causes or campaigns, or charitable purposes or campaigns”.

Bosa should be able to easily afford the penalty. Last season, he signed a five-year, $170 million contract extension with San Francisco.
