Nick “Nickmercs” Kolcheff has become one of the most prominent figures in the Twitch community after over a decade of streaming on the platform. However, Nickmercs reportedly signed a $10 million deal with Kick, Twitch’s main competitor, in late October 2023. Through a Twitter post, Nickmercs announced that his contract with Kick has been finalized and he plans to return to Twitch, although not necessarily in an exclusive manner. The streamer thanked Kick for their support and sent his best wishes to the brand. “In the future we will be primarily on Twitch,” Nickmercs wrote. “While no platform is perfect, I believe this is what’s best for the community.” It’s worth noting that Nickmercs and the Amazon-owned platform hit a rough patch earlier this year. Twitch temporarily banned Nickmercs for using an offensive term to describe transgender people, but the ban was lifted due to unclear policies. After the 10-day break, he continued to occasionally stream on Twitch to his 6.7 million followers.

Nickmercs announces return to Twitch

Under his tweet, Nickmercs fans praised the announcement and expressed their excitement about his return to Twitch. Nickmercs’ use of the term “mainly” could mean that it would still produce some content on Kick. The streamer also replied that he was thinking about streaming on Twitter as well. On the other hand, Nickmercs is known for his controversial statements on politics, which have gotten him into trouble with companies like Activision. Since Twitch has added a warning label for political content and social issues, the streamer may need to better differentiate its political live streams from its gaming live streams to avoid another possible ban.

Although Nickmercs hasn’t shared any details about which games he will stream on Twitch, he has clearly stated that there is one title he will not be playing. Despite its popularity, Nickmercs is not streamed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6partly because of the bad blood he shares with his developer. As for Kick, the Nickmercs deal may be over, but the platform is still going strong and has big streamers like Adin Ross and xQc on the sidelines. Ross’ stream with President Donald Trump even broke Kick’s highest viewership record with over 580,000 viewers. It was also reported in October that Kick was working on a program to pay its viewers, which could attract new users while encouraging existing ones to stay. Of course, this is still just a rumor and fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Kick.
