Odell Beckham Jr. faces the Rams again

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t done much in Miami this season, with just three catches for 15 yards. His next chance comes Monday night, in his first game against the Rams at SoFi Stadium since he tore his ACL during Super Bowl LVI (or more accurately, when his knee finally gave out with a torn ACL).

With Tyreek Hill questionable due to a wrist injury, Beckham could see more than 17 percent of total playing time in four games (45 total snaps) in 2024.

And he could get a chance to repeat the four-catch, 97-yard, one-touchdown performance he put up last year against the Rams as a member of the Ravens.

On Saturday, Rams coach Sean McVay said all the right things about Beckham based on his short time with the Rams.

“He’s such a special player and such a talent,” McVay told reporters. “I think the thing I respect more than anything is what an impressive human being he is and the things he’s been able to overcome, some of it being the injury setbacks. You’re talking about a gifted, talented receiver, really smart and intellectual, who can do so many different things. He was instrumental in enabling us to do the things we did in the short time we had him here.

“I think the most important thing about people is that both of them are Jalen [Ramsey] and Odell, I’m like, are you leaving an impression? What kind of relationships do you build and then what impact do you leave behind? These two guys definitely left a big impact on me and this place. Jalen was here from 2019 until a few years ago and even Odell was only there a few months, but the presence, the charisma and the ability to really have such a good sense of what’s needed in terms of the dynamics of the room. He’s just as funny and just as aware as anyone I’ve been with. It was truly a pleasure to coach him and I still keep in touch with both of these guys. They mean a lot to me.”

Of course, they didn’t mean enough to the Rams to keep them. Ramsey was traded and Beckham was not re-signed – neither in 2023 nor 2024. And while Beckham certainly has plenty of reasons to show that he can still do it by getting back to the point where he might be on his way to the Super Bowl was MVP against a Rams team that didn’t want him back should give him extra motivation.

All he needs is enough chances to make it.
