OKC Thunder forward eliminated against Warriors

play

OKC Thunder center and forward Chet Holmgren left the first quarter of a home game against Golden State on Sunday with a right hip injury.

Holmgren suffered the injury while blocking a shot with 6:50 left in the first quarter. Ultimately, he needed help off the field and will not be returning.

Holmgren entered Sunday’s game averaging 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks. He shot 51.9% from the floor and 40% from deep.

After being selected No. 2 in the 2022 NBA Draft, Holmgren missed the entire 2022-23 season due to a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. He bounced back the following season, playing in all of OKC’s 92 games, including the playoffs, and finishing second in rookie of the year voting with averages of 16.5 points and 7.9 rebounds.

OKC was already thin at center before Holmgren’s injury on Sunday. The team is also without Isaiah Hartenstein (left hand fracture), Jaylin Williams (right hamstring strain) and Kenrich Williams (right knee surgery).
