The Sooners’ defense bounced back after allowing a touchdown.

Missouri was forced to punt from inside their own 20, giving the Sooners a chance to flip the field.

But Tigers’ punter Luke Bauer dropped in a 61-yard punt to pin the Sooners deep, then OU was called for two penalties on the punt to give the Sooners the ball at their own 10 to start the fourth quarter.

The teams have combined for just 311 yards of total offense.

OU couldn’t answer Missouri’s touchdown.

After the Sooners were originally awarded a first down, replay review overturned Jacob Jordan’s apparent catch to an incomplete pass and OU was forced to punt.

Luke Elzinga dropped the punt inside the Missouri 10, giving the Tigers the ball at their own 6.

Zach Schmit hit a 56-yard field goal as time expired to extend OU’s lead going into halftime.

Schmit has hit three field goals in the game, but the final one was his biggest.

The clock looked like it had expired just before as Deion Burks pulled in a 14-yard catch with time running down.

But officials ruled the Sooners had called timeout before the clock expired, giving the Sooners the chance to kick a field goal with Schmit.

The field goal was tied for the third-longest in OU history. Tony DiRienzo holds the OU record with a 60-yarder.

The Sooners are outgaining the Tigers 122-88.

OU’s defense couldn’t get the ball back to its offense for another extended try before the half.

But still, the Sooners did their job with a stop in likely their final defensive stand of the first half.

Missouri mostly kept the ball on the ground, and was forced to punt with 22 seconds left before halftime as boos rained down from some Missouri fans frustrated by the lack of offense.

The Sooners had the ball back with 10 seconds remaining from their OU 34, but a late hit penalty moved the ball near midfield.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

After hitting field goals on back-to-back drives, OU’s offense went nowhere late in the second quarter.

The Sooners went three-and-out, punting the ball back to the Tigers with 2:02 remaining.

Jackson Arnold is 6 for 11 for 30 yards with 10 carries for 20 yards.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

OU’s defense came up with a big stop once again.

But this time, the Tigers came away with points.

After the Sooners’ second turnover of the game gave the Tigers the ball at the OU 28, and Drew Pyne hit former Sooners’ wide receiver Theo Wease for a 19-yard gain on the first play of the drive, OU’s defense bowed up and held the Tigers to a 25-yard field goal.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

For the fourth consecutive drive to start Saturday’s game, OU’s defense quickly got off the field.

The Tigers had to punt for the third time in four drives, but Peyton Bowen couldn’t handle the punt, and the Sooners’ defense will have to step up once again as the Tigers got the ball back inside the OU 30.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

Zach Schmit hit a 35-yard field goal, his second field goal of the game, to extend OU’s lead.

The Tigers have just 24 yards of offense.

OU is pulling out the stops to get bowl eligible.

Brent Venables dialed up a fake punt on fourth-and-6 near midfield and Luke Elzinga’s floater of a pass found Bauer Sharp for a long gain.

Elzinga took the snap and immediately ran toward the line of scrimmage. But before he got there, Elzinga elevated and floated a pass over the defensive front, finding Sharp, who turned upfield for a huge gain of 43 yards.

Sharp hurdled a defender at the end of the play to give OU first-and-goal from the 10.

But after that, OU’s momentum stalled thanks to back-to-back Missouri sacks of Jackson Arnold.

Zach Schmit began the second quarter with a 40-yard field goal to put the Sooners ahead.

The Sooners are outgaining the Tigers 77-5.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

OU’s defense continues to show strong against Missouri backup quarterback Drew Pyne.

After the Sooners turned the ball over, the defense allowed one first down before stopping the Tigers and forcing a second consecutive punt.

Pyne is 3 for 3 passing, but for minus-4 yards.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

Jackson Arnold has mostly taken care of the football since he returned as OU’s quarterback.

But Arnold is struggling in that regard early against Missouri, fumbling twice on the Sooners’ first two drives.

This time, Arnold lost it, giving Missouri the ball back near midfield after the fumble ended. OU’s second offensive drive.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

OU’s first defensive drive was a success.

Missouri went three-and-out on its opening drive, thanks to a pair of tackles from defensive end Ethan Downs.

Downs missed last week’s win over Maine due to injury.

Missouri quarterback Drew Pyne completed his only pass on the drive, for a loss of six yards.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

Deion Burks and Jalil Farooq are back.

OU’s first offensive drive against Missouri didn’t last long — thanks in part to a third-down fumble by Jackson Arnold — but at least the Sooners got two of their wide receivers back.

OU converted on third down initially, but back-to-back incompletions after that put the Sooners behind the chains and then Arnold lost control of the football while rolling out on third down.

Arnold was able to jump on the ball to prevent disaster but Luke Elzinga was forced to punt.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

It appears as if OU will start the same offensive line grouping for the second consecutive week.

While tackle Michael Tarquin was listed as a game-time decision in the final SEC availability report, it appears as if he will not go — at least initially.

Instead, Spencer Brown appears set to make his second consecutive start at right tackle, with Logan Howland on the left side, Heath Ozaeta and Febechi Nwaiwu at guards and Troy Everett at center.

Receivers Jalil Farooq and Deion Burks are set to make their returns after lengthy absences, while Missouri will be without quarterback Brady Cook. Cayden Green, who played for OU last season, will play.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

OU wide receivers Deion Burks and Jalil Farooq will make their much-anticipated returns Saturday.

The Sooners’ receivers will be available against Missouri after being left off the SEC’s pregame injury report. Burks returns after suffering a soft tissue injury against Tennessee and Farooq is back after breaking his foot in OU’s season-opener.

Running back Jovantae Barnes, who was probable on Friday’s availability report, will not be available on Saturday. Running back Gavin Sawchuk and offensive lineman Michael Tarquin are listed as game time decisions to play against the Tigers.

Missouri running back Nate Noel, who was probable on Friday’s injury report, is available.

The Sooners and Tigers kick at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
