One person dies and four are injured in a two-vehicle crash in Santa Rosa County

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – A 69-year-old Crestview, Florida man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County Friday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The accident, which also injured three other people, occurred just after 4 p.m. on eastbound I-10 near the 23 mile marker.

According to the FHP, a sedan driven by a 75-year-old woman from Milton, Florida was behind an SUV driven by a 72-year-old woman from Milton, both traveling in the outside lane of I-10. The driver of the SUV reduced speed to accommodate other slowing traffic, but the driver of the sedan failed to slow down in time and crashed into the rear of the SUV, troopers said.

The left rear passenger of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A 64-year-old woman from Crestview, who was also a passenger in the SUV, suffered serious injuries. Meanwhile, the driver and a third passenger – a 63-year-old woman, also from Milton – suffered minor injuries, according to the FHP.

According to police, the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries.
