Outer Banks EPs Break Down the Motivation for Sarah’s Pregnancy in Season 4

The second half of Outer Banks Season 4 brought two bombshells for the Pogues, including a pregnancy reveal and a serious death.

Warning: Spoilers below for Outer Banks Season 4, Episode 10.

While some fans theorized that pregnancy was imminent, that didn’t happen until the finale of OBX Season 4 dropped on Thursday, November 7th. Fans’ speculations were confirmed by Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) and her positive pregnancy test.

“There was something organic about it in a way, and that has to do with our larger vision for the series,” the executive producer said Jonas Godfather told Cosmopolitan in an interview published on Thursday.

Sarah initially only told BFF Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey) the pregnancy news because she had just told John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes) She had no interest in becoming a teenage mother. Executive producer Josh Pate told the outlet that resistance to motherhood was “the reason we gave her one,” referring to the unplanned pregnancy.

Executive producer Shannon Burke chimed in, saying that Sarah and John B “have been through a lot of different things as a couple, and this is kind of the next level.”

When Sarah told her boyfriend about the pregnancy, John B tried to get a marriage license, but JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) ruined his plans with his own chaos.

Over the course of the season, JJ learned that his biological father is Chandler Groff (J Anthony Crane) and then stumbled and took his friends to Morocco to look for Groff and a treasure called the “Blue Crown”. While JJ finally realized that he had everything he wanted in life with the Pogues, Groff killed him in the finale and took the blue crown.

JJ’s death shocked all of his friends, but it doesn’t change the fact that John B and Sarah are becoming parents. According to the showrunners, Sarah’s pregnancy is part of a much bigger picture they have planned for the fifth and final season.

“We have this overall arc in mind of where everyone is going to end up and what the ending is going to be,” Burke said Cosmo. “It just felt like it was time to play that card and let them move on to the next phase of their relationship.”

She noted that the couple has weathered almost every storm imaginable. “Obviously they were together, they were [not been] They are 100 percent loyal to each other and they do things wrong and they have reconciled,” Burke added. “They are devoted to each other now and this is the next level.”

Although the couple’s unplanned pregnancy felt right to the EPs, Jonas said they “talked early on about all the outcomes” of Sarah’s pregnancy story, including whether she should choose to stay pregnant.

“As Shannon said, they are devoted to each other and married – in their own weird beer can ring way. So it felt real,” Jonas concluded. “And there wasn’t a bigger statement that we thought about outside of these two characters.”

Sarah’s pregnancy wasn’t an obvious storyline for some fans – and castmates Austin North revealed that he was also surprised by the twist.

“Sarah getting pregnant is definitely an oddity,” North, who plays Sarah’s ex-boyfriend Topper Thornton, said exclusively Us weekly on Friday, November 8th. “And it’s also in the middle of the treasure hunt. It’s like, ‘Okay, perfect timing!'”
