Pakistani fast bowler Rauf beat Australia by 5-29 for 163 in the 2nd ODI

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Haris Rauf’s tireless pace took five wickets for 29 runs as Australia were bowled out for 163 by Pakistan in the second one-day international on Friday.

Rauf, who came close to winning for Pakistan in the first game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday, consistently found the outside edges of the bat by hitting the right lengths.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan took five catches – four from Rauf’s bowling – and could have had a sixth had he not dropped a top edge from Adam Zampa (18) before Australia were dismissed in 35 overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-26) provided Pakistan’s breakthrough in the first powerplay after Rizwan won the toss and elected to field. Jake Fraser-McGurk hit three crisp boundaries on the off side in Naseem Shah’s first over to get Australia off to a great start before Afridi’s double hit pushed Australia back.

Afridi dropped Matt Short at deep fine leg as the ball shot through his hands towards the boundary, but the left-arm fast bowler made amends when he caught Short at covers after catching Fraser-McGurk’s plumb leg in front of the wicket caught.

Afridi ended Australia’s subpar innings when Zampa played a full ball back onto his stumps. Zampa hit Naseem Shah for a six and a four in one over, which enabled the home team to cross the 150-run mark.

Rauf, who took 3-67 in the first game before Australia emerged with a two-wicket win, then cut through the middle crease with only Steve Smith scoring 35 from 48 balls before he too chased down a long short ball from Mohammad Hasnain and gained a lead behind the goal.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood replaced Sean Abbott in the only change Australia made to the team that beat Pakistan in the first game.

Mitchell Starc, Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cummins and Hazlewood will all be rested for the final game of the series in Perth on Sunday before the five-Test series against India begins in Perth on November 22.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been named interim captain for the final ODI in Perth. He will also lead the team in next week’s three T20 matches against Pakistan while Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are on paternity leave.
