Phoenix driver narrowly misses highway worker in frightening crash in New York

LISLE, NY (AZFamily) — A frightening accident was captured on video showing a box truck crashing into two parked New York State Department of Transportation vehicles.

New York State Police identified the driver involved as 36-year-old Muhammed A. Wesley of Phoenix.

The accident occurred just before noon on October 28 on Interstate 81 in Lisle, New York, a small upstate town about 200 miles northwest of New York City.

According to state police, Wesley was driving a Penske box truck northbound when he failed to pass a work zone where two DOT vehicles were parked on the side of the highway.

Dashcam video shows the truck crashing into a DOT bumper and a small DOT dump truck, narrowly missing a worker who jumped out of the way just before the accident.

The van is then seen pulling off the highway and stopping after driving up an embankment.

Luckily no one was injured.

State Police say a “Mow Ahead” sign was posted to alert drivers to the work area and that both vehicles had their yellow lights on prior to the accident.

It is unclear whether Wesley was quoted.
