Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens makes insane catch against Commanders

PITTSBURGH – Ever since Russell Wilson took over as starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, his connection to wide receiver George Pickens has been obvious. After the team’s star receiver struggled through the first six weeks of the season, his season suddenly got back on track when the veteran quarterback took over the position under center.

In just their third game together for the Steelers, Wilson and Pickens connected on a touchdown play worthy of consideration for Catch of the Year. In the team’s first trip to the red zone against the Washington Commanders, it only took two plays for the offense to convert.

Wilson took the shotgun blast, stepped back and floated his patented moonball about 20 yards toward the end zone. Pickens beat the opposing defender all the way to the goal and took off, showing off his flexibility and aerial skills as he twisted his body to collect the pass. The touchdown gave the Steelers a 7-0 lead over the Commanders in the first quarter.

The Internet quickly came to life after Pickens’ game. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared a clip of the touchdown grab via his X account. He also shared the opinion that this was a touchdown catch of the year.

“George Pickens with his second TD of the season and one of the best in the NFL so far this year,” he wrote.

Pickens continues to come alive as the season goes on, and Wilson is a big reason why. Through the first eight games of the 2024 season, he had 35 catches for 548 yards and one TD grab. This incredible game marked his second appearance of the year, and it looks like he has many more to come as he closes out the year.
