Player Ratings: Cagliari 3-3 AC Milan

AC Milan dropped points after conceding a late equalizer against Cagliari this evening, with a final score of 3-3. Some players did really well while some struggled. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out how we decide on player ratings. From the scale to the impact on the rating, we have put everything together there.

Starting XI

Maignan (6.5): It was a pretty tough first half for the goalkeeper as he conceded after less than two minutes (he couldn’t do anything about it) and then made two great saves from Zortea and Piccoli. The second half was just as lively and unfortunately he conceded two goals that he could do little about. Absolutely no help from his defenders tonight.

Emerson Royal (5.5): He wasn’t particularly convincing in the 1v1 games and was often out of position. As we saw from Cagliari’s chances, they often crossed from the left and the Brazilian didn’t do a good enough job of stopping them.

Thiaw (6): We’ve definitely moved on from the Thiaw who was making big mistakes week after week as he looks pretty solid now. He won a lot of duels tonight, but with three goals conceded it is difficult to get a high score.

Pavlovic (5.5): He had a few questionable moments tonight, including a cross that he couldn’t clear, but also some good interventions from the back. In other words, he is very difficult to evaluate, also because the second goal was clearly Fofana’s fault.

Hernandez (5): Not a good night for the captain as Cagliari created one dangerous chance after another by crossing the ball to the far post. The third goal was a great goal from Zappa, but the Frenchman could have been more attentive, but the rating is mainly due to the consistently poor positioning in defense.

Fofana (6): It was a fantastic pass for Leao on the second goal that cut through the Cagliari defense, but the mistake on the second goal was brutal. Of course, Milan scored after that, so that wasn’t decisive per se, but it certainly hurt his rating a lot because other than that, he was actually good.

Reijnders (7): Just like his midfield colleague, he secured a wonderful assist with a small attack on the Cagliari defense. He had a few more good runs and even defensive attempts at the back, but this assist alone deserves a high mark.

Chukwueze (5.5): He had a good start to the game with some nice dribbling and often beat his man, but the finishing touch was missing. Camarda set him up with a good opportunity at the start of the second half, but he missed the target.

Pulisic (6): Because he had a hand in the third goal with a nice shot from deep, he gets a pass here, but other than that it was pretty boring stuff from him. He also had a poor defensive performance, so it wasn’t a particularly successful evening.

Leao (7.5 – MOTM): There’s only so much he can do: he scored two wonderful goals and posed a threat to the Cagliari defense in possession. The dink was delightful and the run was perfectly timed, building on what we did against Real Madrid (and eventually scored!). It’s a shame it ended 3-3.

Camarda (6): It wasn’t a bad performance by any means, but he needed some time to get used to the game. He had some good moments in the second half – including a pass for Chukwueze – but was substituted shortly afterwards. However, it would be hard not to give this a 6.

Substitute

Abraham (6.5): In the right place, at the right time, when he hit the net with his first touch (?). He also had a good defensive performance at the end.

Okafor (5): When you come off the bench you just have to be energetic and Okafor showed that wasn’t the case by coming back after Cagliari’s equaliser. Yes, Theo could have done better, but the winger didn’t make his life any easier. In the end he also missed a header.

Loftus Cheek (6): He was involved in the preparation of the third goal and otherwise did quite well.

Musah (6): Good defense and a few nice runs forward, including a great cross from Okafor at the end.

Tomori (N/A): We haven’t seen enough to give it a rating.
