Police investigate fatal accident in Emporia

EMPORIA, Va. (WWBT) – Police are investigating a crash in Emporia that left one person dead and three others injured, including a juvenile.

According to authorities, the incident occurred after an 18-wheeler attempted to turn onto Route 58 and collided with an eastbound car.

There were four passengers in the car at the time of the accident. The driver, 18-year-old Brendon St. John, was taken to the hospital along with 18-year-old Bradley St. John and a juvenile. A rear passenger, 40-year-old Bruce St. John, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver required the assistance of firefighters to be removed from the vehicle. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transported to VCU Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as 27-year-old Barret Moss Johnson, was charged with reckless driving and additional charges are pending.

The cause of this incident is still under investigation.
