Portland nurse killed while vacationing in Hungary

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Portland Providence St. Vincent nurse was killed while vacationing in Hungary, according to Budapest police.

Providence confirmed that Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski was a neurosurgical nurse at Providence St. Vincent.

The 31-year-old nurse was spotted at a Budapest nightclub on November 5 before she disappeared.

Police said investigators “noticed several suspicious circumstances” surrounding her disappearance and later identified the 37-year-old Irishman who she had seen at several clubs.

During the interrogation, the man showed investigators where he had hidden Michalski’s body, Budapest police said. He remains in police custody.

Providence released a statement saying they were “deeply saddened” by the news of her death.

The US State Department released a statement saying it was working with the US Embassy in Budapest and police there.

Providence released a statement that said in part: “Those who worked with her and knew her best say Kenzie was kind and loving – a great friend and a valued caregiver who embodied our Providence mission and values.” lived in their daily lives.”

Michalski’s friends and family issued a statement.

“Kenzie will forever be remembered as a beautiful and compassionate young woman who was committed to caring for others and making the world a better place. As a nurse, Kenzie used her humor, positive attitude, and boundless compassion to heal her patients and encourage family and friends alike.

We are grateful that Keznie’s soul has now found peace. Her memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
