Predicting the Commanders’ next four games after a 7-2 start in 2024

The Washington Commanders are just one game away from their long-awaited bye week when the Tennessee Titans visit Northwest Stadium. It was a strenuous campaign that, fortunately, did not bring much misfortune in the health sector. Players will be hurting at this point, but it’s crucial to persevere before the extended rest period.

All in all, it looks like a winnable game. The Titans are initially experiencing some turbulence under new head coach Brian Callahan. Second-year quarterback Will Levis doesn’t appear to be the long-term answer. They also noticeably lack the presence of running back Derrick Henry.

Another high draft pick awaits Tennessee if they fail to turn things around. That wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world – especially when there’s a college quarterback who fascinates the powers that be. Until then, the Titans will try to salvage some semblance of respectability from another lost season.

They have some decent players who can hurt Washington if complacency becomes an issue. Tony Pollard is someone Dan Quinn knows well from their time together with the Dallas Cowboys. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley is a match for anyone when he’s motivated. Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons is a standout, so it will take a lot of effort to make sure everyone enters the bye week on a positive note.

This would be a game that would have caused concern among Commanders fans in years past. The term trap game was often their downfall. But one look at the way this revamped squad and increased culture change have eliminated internal resistance so far this season should be enough to assuage any remaining concerns.

If the Commanders can split their next two games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, going to 10-3 on game week is a real possibility. Something that will all but confirm postseason football and enthusiasm for Washington’s future will reach levels not seen in a generation.
