Wander Franco can’t seem to avoid getting into trouble with the law.

The Tampa Bay Rays shortstop is currently out on bail awaiting trial on charges of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor and human trafficking.

On Monday, Franco was arrested again for a separate incident.

“Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested Monday in San Juan de la Maguana, 100 miles west of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic,” ESPN’s Juan Recio wrote, “according to two police sources. It happened on Sunday an altercation in the parking lot of an apartment complex where weapons were drawn.

Recio also reported that police detained Franco and an unnamed woman for questioning after the incident.

In August 2023, MLB placed Franco on administrative leave and released a statement saying, “Pursuant to an agreement between MLB and the MLBPA, Wander Franco has been placed on administrative leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation.” The administrative leave takes effect immediately.” does not constitute a disciplinary action within the meaning of the Common Policy on Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse and Child Abuse. Franco was arrested in the Dominican Republic in January as part of an investigation into an alleged relationship with a then-14-year-old girl and was subsequently formally charged in July. (MLB’s administrative leave ended in June.) He is scheduled to stand trial in December on the aforementioned charges.

The 23-year-old is currently on Major League Baseball’s restricted list and has not been officially released from the Rays organization.
