Rockets To Wear banner inspired City Edition plains

Good morning everyone. Yesterday the Houston Rockets unveiled their City Edition jerseys for this season. Unlike many Houston teams, there is no “H-Town Blue.” Instead, the Rockets introduced a white, red and black “H-Town” uniform, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their two banner years.

Why black instead of the sports gold that Houston wore as its trim color when it won the 1994 and 1995 NBA Finals?

Man, I loved those universities!

Anyway, you could say it’s a new kind of BFBS… Black For Banners’ Sake.

Here’s a closer look at the black-trimmed championship banners hanging from the rafters.

The City Edition uni also matches the current color scheme. Her red uni has black trim and there is a black “statement” uni that hasn’t been worn yet this season.

There are other details inspired by the 1994 and 1995 teams. The patch on the side of the pants matches the old Houston Summit center court logo and the front of the waistband features the old arena logo.

And of course, the “H-Town” is in the old font of the championship jerseys, but with a really thick black trim. The numbers are also reminiscent, which I enjoy a lot more than the current thin numbers.

There are two other details that won’t be seen on the court: At the bottom of the jock tag are the signatures of the Phi Slama Jama brothers and Rockets teammates Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. Below it is “Believe It!” Again!” slogan from 1995.

I don’t have to wait to see it in action… I think it’s a very good looking uniform. Not as great as the originals, but I like it.

According to Rockets Wire, the City Edition varsity will be worn at least 13 times, starting November 20th against the Indiana Pacers.

Before I go…a few football articles

My thrift shopping find of the week is this wonderful 1970s NFL pillowcase. Only two dollars!

My favorite pillowcase is the alpine ski pillowcase that I still have from my childhood, but this one is very close.

Also, the UCLA Bruins played retro in the Rose Bowl last night. Not just with their varsities, but also with retro end zones.

I love this look! Find out what I think about universities on Sunday Morning Uni Watch. Until then, take care and have a great Saturday.
