Ryan Reynolds thinks Gambit may have had its Deadpool leak moment

As Gambit said, he’s about to make a name for himself. Channing Tatum’s appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine was one of the biggest surprises of the film, especially because the actor had never played the character before. However, he had tried. Oh boy, if he had tried. Tatum spent the better part of a decade working with directors and writers to bring the card-throwing Cajun to the big screen, but never managed to hit the mark. But according to co-star Ryan Reynolds, he just needed a chance.

“I honestly don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors in the accounting meetings at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in this role,” Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s kind of the same situation I went through. Once you show it works well, it’s exactly what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”

Reynolds is referring to the moment in July 2014 (around the same time Tatum began work on Gambit) when “leaked” footage of him playing Deadpool surfaced online. The footage exploded, Fox finally realized the character’s potential, and the rest is history. So basically Reynolds thinks along Deadpool and Wolverine Showing what Tatum intended to do with the character and how audiences responded might finally make the powers that be agree to give him more to do.

However, if that were to happen, it would certainly take some time. Marvel Studios has a lot planned for the next few years, especially the conclusion of the Multiverse saga with the associated films Avengers: End of the World And Avengers: Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027. But most fans assume that mutants will be on the table after that – and, well, what better time could there be for Gambit to emerge from the void and make a name for himself in the MCU?

Do you think there will actually be a Channing Tatum Gambit movie? And performed in Deadpool and Wolverine have the same impact as the Deadpool footage leak? The sound is off downstairs.

Deadpool and Wolverine is available now on digital and Blu-ray and is coming to Disney+ next week.
