Just months after taking home the People’s Choice Country Award for New Artist and New Artist Song, and just days after earning six Grammy nominations, country artist Shaboozey has a new title: Halftime Artist .

The Detroit Lions announced Sunday that the Nigerian-American artist will headline their halftime show when they face the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day.

Shaboozey is best known for his hit single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which catapulted him into the mainstream. Spotify named the song one of its top five global songs of the summer in August, along with songs like Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

This song alone earned Shaboozey Grammy nominations for Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song. The artist was also featured on “Spaghetti” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin'” from Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed album Cowboy Carter.

Shaboozey hits major milestones in breakthrough year

In May 2024, Shaboozey became the first Black male artist to simultaneously top the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”.

Billboard also said the Virginia native became the second Black artist to ever top both charts, with Beyoncé becoming the first to achieve the feat for “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

The 29-year-old’s smash hit is also the first single in history to reach the Top 10 on the Country, Pop, Adult Pop and Rhythmic Airplay charts.

Earlier this year, Shaboozey replaced Beyoncé at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country chart, marking the first time in history that two Black artists topped the chart consecutively.
