Before the game

Update 11:40 a.m.: Syracuse kick returner Malachi James is not dressed for Saturday’s game.

Syracuse looks to mathematically stay alive in the race for the ACC Championship Game and move further toward the AP Top 25 with a road win over Boston College on Saturday.

The Orange (6-2, 3-2 ACC) are coming off an emotional overtime win against Virginia Tech last week, while the Eagles had an extra week to prepare. Boston College (4-4, 1-3) got off to a strong start this season under first-year coach Bill O’Brien but has lost three straight games.

Boston College lacks playmakers beyond quarterback Thomas Castellanos, but is known for its strong offensive line play and boasts three of the ACC’s 11 highest-rated offensive linemen on PFF.

The Orange, who have struggled to get offense this year, will need to showcase both Castellanos’ scrambling skills and a rotation of three competent running backs.

The game will be SU’s third outdoor game this year, following a win at North Carolina State and a loss at Pittsburgh.

Former Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone is part of the BC team. He is listed as a senior analyst for football strategy and research.
