During an episode of his Where everyone knows your name podcast, the 76-year-old actor revealed that the writers of the hit NBC sitcom regularly consulted experts in ethics and philosophy to check the accuracy of their scripts.

The good place ran for four seasons, from 2016 to 2020, and followed Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Jason (Manny Jacinto) and Chidi (William Jackson Harper) on their journey into the afterlife. By studying ethics and philosophy, everyone tries to leave their old ways behind in order to secure a real place in the “good place”. The series also starred Danson as the afterlife “architect” Michael and D’Arcy Carden as Janet, an AI being who helps the group in the afterlife.

After the actor pointed out that the series was used in ethics courses at various universities, Danson also revealed that the production also sought advice from experts.

“On speed dial, we had three or four ethics professors talking to the authors daily to make sure what we were talking about was right,” he said. “Sometimes it’s good to get a second or third opinion.”

“It was perfect. “It was an absolutely perfect sendoff,” Danson said of the 2020 finale Today show. “That’s really how you hope the universe works.”

He also revealed that the cast maintained a close friendship throughout the show’s four seasons and stayed at his house a few weeks before the finale.

“Mary had everyone come over and we had a sleepover,” he said of his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen. “It makes a party even better when you wake up, have a coffee and reminisce.”
