Teenage driver killed in crash on I-78 in Lehigh County

A 19-year-old woman died after the car she was driving veered off Interstate 78 and crashed into a concrete bridge support column in Upper Saucon early Monday, authorities said.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as Ciarra Sanchez of Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Sanchez died from multiple blunt force injuries and her manner of death was ruled an accident by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.

The accident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. at mile marker 60.3 along I-78 East, state police said. Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.

It is unclear what led to the collision. Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville continued the investigation Monday.
