Thai supernatural horror film ‘Death Whisperer 2’ scares major corporations | News

Khui-Taweewar Wantha’s Thai supernatural horror Death Whisperer 2 has collected US$22 million (739 million baht), making it the second-biggest local release of all time.

It was also sold worldwide by Bangkok-based distribution and production company M Studio, which is currently promoting new horror titles at AFM Spirit Board And Kogaloak Village.

After its release on October 10th Death Whisperer 2 broke a number of local box office records – the highest ticket sales ever for a Thai film; Highest opening gross for a Thai film, over US$2.4 million (80 million baht); and fastest Thai film to surpass the 100M baht mark (US$3 million) in 32 hours.

It is also the highest-grossing Thai film of 2024, overtaking Breakthrough How to Make Millions Before Grandma DiesThailand’s submission for the Oscars.

The sequel will take place in 2023 Death Whisperer ends as a group of siblings attempt to hunt down the ghost that possessed and killed their younger sister several years earlier.

Backed by M Studio and Thai broadcaster Channel 3, the film reunites director Khui-Taweewar with his cast from the first film, including Nadech Kugimiya, Junior Kajbhunditt Jaidee, Friend Peerakrit Phacharaboonyakiat, Denise Jelilcha Kapaun, Mim Rattanawadee Wongtong and Nina Nuthatcha Padovan.

Published as Tea Yod 2 in some territories it will be rolled out in November and December in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America. It became the biggest Thai film in Vietnam through Mockingbird Pictures.

AFM starts

At AFM, M Studio introduces buyers to horror adventures Spirit Board and horror comedy Kogaloak Village.

Spirit Board is about three board game enthusiasts who must defeat an old board game before evil spirits take their lives. It is directed by Chanathip Wongpoltree and produced by Visute Poolvoralaks, the former CEO of GMM Tai Hub (GTH), the now-defunct company behind 2013 Pee Makwhich remains the greatest Thai film of all time.

Kogaloak Village is about a group of police officers who disguise themselves to uncover the truth behind a series of murders in a village, with a transgender ghost being the main suspect. Directed by Poj Arnon, Kapol Thongplub and Nachat Juntapun.
