The 84-year-old man dies days after the crash in Monroe, New Jersey, police say

MONROE – An 84-year-old man died Sunday, three days after a two-vehicle collision on Union Valley Road that left him trapped in his car.

The man’s name and hometown have not yet been released by police.

On November 7th at approximately 6:44 p.m., Monroe Police dispatchers received a 911 call about a possible entrapment crash on Union Valley Road near Angelo Court.

When Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics arrived, they discovered a crash involving a 2006 Toyota Camry and a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado.

A 32-year-old man driving the Silverado suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, police said.

Monroe firefighters rescued the 84-year-old man driving the Camry, and he was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by a New Jersey State Police Medevac helicopter. He remained in critical condition until his death on Sunday, police said.

An initial investigation revealed the Camry was stopped on the side of the road on Union Valley Road and then crossed into the path of the Silverado for an unknown reason, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Jabazz Spence and Officers Taylor Deickmann and Matthew Mangarella of the Monroe Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Division at 732-521-0222, extension 126.
