The Black Mountain Police Department’s YouTube video tells Helene’s story

The Black Mountain Police Department has created a 10-minute video capturing the unsealed scenes of events during the height of Hurricane Helene.

The chaotic scenes shown were captured in real time by police body cameras.

The video is divided into four chapters:

  • Chapter 1 – The Night of the Storm
  • Chapter 2 – The Destruction
  • Chapter 3 – The Rescue
  • Chapter 4 – Black Mountain Strong

“When we created the chapters, we wanted to show the night of the storm and the day after and how devastating and intense the storm was,” Black Mountain Police Chief Steve Parker told News 13. “Then we wanted to show how we did our “Time saving and helping people and working together to get to those in need. Then we wanted to talk about the recovery process and how we’ve progressed, and lastly we wanted to talk about where we were in the last chapter and how communities have come together and how we’re recovering from power and water.”

Officials say it will take years for the recovery process to recover.

The support of other departments, businesses, nonprofits, individuals and countless volunteers has been invaluable, Parker said.

“People came from all over to help us. This is the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department,” Parker said, noting part of the video. “I was able to call the boss there, who is my friend, and said I needed help and I needed it now. They came and saved people who had no way out.”
