The FBI warned voters Tuesday about attempted deception in the 2024 election, saying the agency posed in at least two fake videos aimed at shaking Americans’ trust in the political process.

In one case, the FBI said in a Nov. 5 press release, the FBI’s name and insignia were used for a fake news clip that purportedly depicted an agency terror warning.

“The fake news clipping falsely reports that the FBI purportedly stated that Americans should vote ‘remotely’ at polling stations because of the high threat of terrorism,” the FBI wrote. “This video is not authentic and does not accurately reflect the current threat situation or the security of the polling location.”

Another fake video purporting to come from the agency claimed that management at five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona “manipulated the inmate vote and colluded with a political party,” the FBI said.

“Election integrity is among our highest priorities, and the FBI is working closely with state and local law enforcement partners to respond to election threats and protect our communities while Americans exercise their right to vote,” the agency wrote. “Attempts to deceive the public with false content about FBI threat assessments and activities are aimed at undermining our democratic process and undermining trust in the electoral system.”

The Justice Department told Fox News that Attorney General Merrick Garland will receive his daily morning threat briefing from the FBI and will be briefed on developments by his law enforcement and national security teams throughout the day. He also planned to stop by the FBI’s National Election Command Post for updates.

The warning comes a day after the office and the Intelligence Community (IC) highlighted efforts by foreign adversaries, particularly Russia and Iran, to sow distrust among Americans in the electoral process.

“The Intelligence Community (IC) has observed foreign adversaries, particularly Russia, conducting additional influence operations to undermine public confidence in the integrity of U.S. elections and fuel divisions among Americans,” the statement said. “The IC expects that this activity will intensify leading up to Election Day and in the coming weeks and that foreign influence narratives will focus on swing states.”

Russian companies produced videos and news reports to cause Americans to question the legitimacy of the election and to portray Americans as using violence against each other over political differences, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said ) on Monday.

Russian agents allegedly faked a video in which a person claimed voter fraud in Arizona involving fake foreign ballots and the manipulation of voter rolls to benefit Vice President Kamala Harris. According to the agency, the Arizona secretary of state has denied these claims.

These videos “pose the risk of inciting violence, including against election officials,” the ODNI said.

The FBI, along with ODNI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, also stated that Iran “conducted malicious cyber activities to compromise former President Trump’s election campaign.”

They noted that Iran is determined to take revenge on certain US officials it holds responsible for the death of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Qods Force commander Qasem Solemani in January 2020.

“She has repeatedly singled out former President Trump as one of her top retaliatory targets,” the statement said.
