The FBI warns of fake videos depicting authorities and false election information

[Karah]

The FBI is warning about fake videos on Election Day that use the agency’s name and insignia to spread misinformation.

Officials say they know at least two clips are circulating ON-LINE.

THE fbi says the VIDEOS ARE PART OF A DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN USING FACTORY NEWS REPORTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

Some of these clips allege voter fraud, while others falsely claim that the FBI advised people to “vote remotely” due to a terror threat at polling stations.

According to a group of researchers, these videos were likely created by a Russian disinformation network.

THIS GROUP HAS A HISTORY OF FOLLOWING US GOVERNMENT UNITS AND INFORMATION ORGANIZATIONS. They even include QR codes that link to real news sources to make their content seem more credible.

The FBI says protecting election integrity is a top priority. In a statement, the bureau added: “Attempts to deceive the public with false content about FBI threat assessments and activities are aimed at undermining our democratic process and undermining trust in the electoral system.”

As millions head to the polls, the FBI continues to work with state and local law enforcement to combat election threats.

Officials are urging voters to be careful and believe what they see ON-LINE.
