The hearing of the man charged with murdering a New Jersey prosecutor’s office investigator has been postponed

A detention hearing for one of four men charged with murder in the shooting death of a Cumberland County prosecutor’s office detective was scheduled to take place Wednesday but has been postponed until next week.

Nyshawn B. Mutcherson, 29, of Vineland, is charged with first-degree murder, murder during the commission of a burglary, weapons offenses, obstruction and obstruction in the Oct. 15 shooting that killed Detective Sgt. Monica Mosley.

During a brief appearance Wednesday morning, both the prosecution and defense called for additional time to review evidence and prepare arguments about whether Mutcherson should remain in prison while he awaits trial.

That hearing is now scheduled for November 15th.

In addition to Mutcherson, Jarred D. Brown, 31, of Bridgeton, Richard B. Hawkins Willis, 32, of Gloucester City, and Byron L. Thomas, 35, of Paulsboro, are each charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in the case. Charges were filed against Thomas on Tuesday.

A fifth person, Cyndia E. Pimentel, 38, of Paulsboro, is accused of helping to cover up evidence in the murder and is charged with third-degree obstruction of investigation and fourth-degree obstruction and tampering with evidence.

Brown, Hawkins Willis and Pimentel have their prison hearings scheduled for Thursday, while Thomas’ hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Authorities said the four men entered Mosley’s Bridgeton home and shot her, and Mosley shot Mutcherson in the chest before she died of her injuries.

Officials have not said whether Mosley knew her attackers or whether the crime was a random home invasion.

Mosley began her career with the District Attorney’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal and became a district detective in 2009. At the time of her death, she was a supervisor in the prosecutor’s office’s internal affairs department.

The investigation into Mosley’s murder is ongoing, officials said. Anyone with further information about the case is asked to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135 or leave an anonymous tip online at cmcpros.net/tips.

Mosley, a mother and grandmother who grew up in Bridgeton, was remembered at her funeral as a dedicated police officer who cared about her community.

A comedy fundraiser to benefit her family is planned for Nov. 21 at Kaycee Ray’s, 830 East Landis Ave., in Vineland.

The event, hosted by Malcolm Hill, will feature headliner Timmy Hall and comedian Stiletto, as well as local R&B singer James Dewalt. Doors open at 8 p.m., the show starts at 9 p.m

Tickets can be purchased online.

In addition, the union representing Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office officers has launched a fundraiser to help Mosley’s family.
