The NFL expert believes that Drew Brees will break a single-season record this season

Things didn’t quite go according to plan for the New Orleans Saints this year. However, one could also argue that this is exactly what had to happen.

Many fans have wanted Dennis Allen fired for a long time, and the current seven-game losing streak has finally broken the camel’s back. Allen is gone. Now it looks like the Saints can start planning and try to take this franchise back to its glory days.

Speaking of the glory days, it’s been a rough ride since Drew Brees retired. A quarterback like Brees is rare and Saints fans have been spoiled for choice over 15 outstanding seasons. Now it’s time to find the next real franchise fit. As likable as Derek Carr is, he’s not the long-term answer.

While Brees is now retired, there are several quarterbacks in the rest of the league who are also trying to aspire to some of the things he was able to accomplish. Over in Detroit, quarterback Jared Goff is actually on pace to break a single-season record set by Brees in 2018.

And one expert seems to think Goff will actually accomplish that feat.

In a recent article published by some NFL insiders and experts at ESPN, Seth Wickersham made a bold prediction that Goff will end up breaking Brees’ single-season completion percentage record:

“Through the first five games, Goff’s 83% contest percentage was an NFL record, according to ESPN Research (minimum 50 attempts). He leads the NFL with a 74.9% completion rate, on pace to eclipse Brees’ 74.4% individual contest rate. “Season mark set in 2018,” Wickersham wrote.

More Saints news:

It’s pretty sobering when you think about how Goff went from a one-time underdog with the Rams to a thriving player under Ben Johnson and making the most of his opportunity in Detroit. To think he could break a record held by Brees is amazing, but he can make it a reality at this rate.

“And Goff shows no signs of slowing down,” Wickersham continued. “He completed 30 direct passes to his top target, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and can increase his numbers over the next three weeks against the Colts and Jaguars (two struggling pass defenses).”

What Goff is doing this season is nothing short of incredible. His career resurgence started out as a nice feel-good story, but he was able to continue playing at a high level. Join the conversation with someone like Brees and possibly even win the league MVP as some are predicting?

One word: Wow.

What a turnaround that would be for a quarterback who was once considered a “throw-in” in the Matthew Stafford deal.
