The Seattle Seahawks are working on former Patriots draft pick N’Keal Harry

The Seattle Seahawks may be without the services of Noah Fant for several weeks after he suffered a groin injury in practice, meaning the search for tight end help is on.

According to Cards Wire’s Howard Balzer, Seattle brought in four tight ends, one of whom was a notable draft bust as a wide receiver to the New England Patriots.

N’Keal Harry is the biggest name here, as he was one of the eight wide receivers selected in the 2019 NFL Draft ahead of DK Metcalf. Harry was selected with the 32nd overall pick by the Patriots, whose track record of using early draft capital on wide receivers was notoriously spotty under Bill Belichick. He was ineffective in New England, catching just 57 passes for 598 yards and 4 touchdowns.

When Harry left the Patriots in 2022, he played a few games for the Chicago Bears, catching 7 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, and barely played any snaps last season with the Minnesota Vikings. The former Arizona State star is 6-foot-10 and initially played at 225 pounds, but apparently gained some weight to switch positions.

As for the other tight ends, Tre’ McKitty was a third-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021. Known more as a blocking tight end, McKitty didn’t show any success in LA and didn’t outlive his contract. He was most recently with the Buffalo Bills before being released in the preseason. Tyree Jackson was an XFL quarterback with the DC Defenders before moving to TE in the NFL and was most recently with the New York Giants. After all, Gerrit Prince has worked exclusively as a practice player/training camp player for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs in recent seasons.

The Seahawks have a full practice squad. So when a TE is signed, someone has to be removed. Mike Macdonald said they don’t expect Noah Fant to be on IR, so keep that in mind.

Seattle’s current healthy TEs on the active roster are rookie AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell. Tyler Mabry is the only tight end on the practice squad.
