“The View” defends Nicole Scherzinger’s controversial Instagram comment

The view The hosts defended Broadway star Nicole Scherzinger on Monday after the singer and actress faced backlash over her comment on an Instagram post by Russell Brand.

Scherzinger’s Instagram account commented on a recent post from Brand, the controversial comedian and podcaster who has faced numerous allegations of sexual assault, just days after last Tuesday’s presidential election. Brand’s post featured a photo of the comedian, a recent convert to Christianity, holding a red hat that read “Make Jesus First Again,” with the hat reminiscent of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” caps .

In response to the photo, Scherzinger appeared to have responded in a now-deleted comment: “Where can I get this hat!!!?” The Sunset Blvd Star apologized for the comment on social media on Friday, writing in a lengthy statement that “many assumptions are made that do not reflect who I am, what I stand for or who I voted for.” Many of the marginalized communities Those who feel hurt and concerned by the presidential election results are people I care about most. As always, I stand by them throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know this.”

She continued, “Like so many others, I turn to my faith in times of unhappiness and uncertainty.” I believe the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to embrace love and faith to decide.”

On Monday, The view The co-hosts addressed the issue and defended Scherzinger. Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion by saying that people were making “a lot” of the topic.

“The emotions are so raw,” co-host Ana Navarro said of the post-election mood. “It’s exaggerated. I think people are losing their minds. Right now, social media is a rough, harsh place. You can literally post a picture of puppies and people will attack you.”

Navarro added that Scherzinger “shouldn’t have apologized” but “don’t go on social media if you can’t take the heat because people are crazy.”

Co-host Sara Haines said the reaction appeared to be related to the “mob mentality” of social media, calling the environment “toxic and toxic.”

Haines also noted that Scherzinger – whose appearance in Sunset Blvd was widely celebrated — now faces a group of people demanding that she not be nominated for a Tony Award. “This has gotten out of control,” she said.

Goldberg added: “She’s brilliant on the show. She liked a hat. Relax. She liked a hat about Jesus. I think that would be a unifying thing. It’s a hat. It’s just a hat.”

Sunny Hostin also agreed that “the emotions are so raw” but that the situation seemed “ridiculous.”

The view Co-hosts Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin had Monday off.
