Thomas Mascia was suspended from the NYSP following the Long Island shooting

New York State Police are investigating the circumstances of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Long Island last week.

The Nassau County shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the area of ​​Exit 17 westbound on the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead between Officer Thomas Mascia and a suspect who had fled the scene, according to the original report State police report Oct. 31.

Mascia was injured after the incident and taken to a local hospital. The parkway was temporarily closed and a BOLO – Be On the Lookout – was issued for a black Charger with a temporary New Jersey registration.

However, state police canceled the BOLO on Monday and indicated they would be executing a search warrant at Mascia’s apartment. According to several other news outlets, Mascia was suspended without pay. State police did not immediately respond to the USA TODAY Network’s request for additional information.
