Trump appoints Stephen Miller as deputy policy chief in the new administration

US President-elect Donald Trump has named longtime adviser Stephen Miller, an immigration hardliner, as deputy policy chief of his new administration.

Vice President Elect JD Vance posted a congratulatory message to Miller on X on Monday, saying, “This is another fantastic presidential choice.”

The announcement was first reported by CNN.

Miller was a senior adviser in Trump’s 2017-2021 presidency and played a central role in many of his policy decisions, particularly his move to separate thousands of immigrant families as a deterrence program in 2018.

The policies included building a wall on the U.S. border.Mexico border, banning entry for people from certain Muslim-majority countries and elsewhere, and a controversial 2018 border policy that separated thousands of migrant families.
