Trump overtakes Harris; Nevada polls closed; Results for the Congress Roll-In

Former President Donald Trump appears to be in a good position to return to the White House, although as of 10 p.m. Eastern time, all seven swing states were still too close to call.

With 82% of votes counted in Georgia, Trump led Vice President Kamala Harris 51.9% to 47.4%, according to the Associated Press. He also led in North Carolina with 5.9 percentage points and 72% of the vote.

As expected, Harris made gains over Trump in some well-educated suburban districts, but not nearly as much as would be needed to overcome rightward shifts in rural areas. Florida, considered a swing state as recently as 2016, went to Trump by a margin of 13.5 percentage points with 96% of votes counted, according to the AP.

Dow futures rose more than 500 points while the 10-year Treasury yield rose 0.13 percentage points in after-hours trading. The dollar rose while Bitcoin rose more than 9.5% to a new all-time high of around $75,000.
