As already reported by NewsweekAccording to Pentagon documents, the US has sent more than 300 Bradleys and four support vehicles to Ukraine as of 2019. Kiev’s 47th Mechanized Brigade, which fought in the east of the country, was the only known operator of the infantry fighting vehicles as well as the US M1 Abrams main battle tank.

According to The Associated Press, the Bradley is a “medium armored fighting vehicle that can serve as a troop transport. It has tracks instead of wheels, but the vehicle is lighter and more maneuverable than a tank. It can carry about 10 people.” Instead, it can be configured to carry additional ammunition or communications equipment.”

The Bradleys appeared to demonstrate their resilience in the attack shown in the video, withstanding a direct hit from mortar attacks and FPV drones before successfully withdrawing with no critical damage or loss of personnel reported.

Newsweek could not independently verify the footage and emailed the Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian government’s press office on Monday seeking comment.

A commander from the 47th Mechanized Brigade recounted Newsweek in January 2024 that Russian soldiers were “afraid” to launch operations “if they know there will be a Bradley against them.”

As Ukrainian forces continue to fight in contested areas, they are increasingly using Bradleys as a versatile, survivable weapon. In this alleged mission, the Bradleys were used to dismantle Russian positions embedded in a forested area.

Taking advantage of the firepower of the armored personnel carriers, the brigade’s maneuver appeared to break through the tree line, disable Russian positions, and suppress infantry with the Bradleys’ M242 Bushmaster 25mm chain guns.

Russian forces reportedly responded with heavy return fire during the battle, including several grenade launcher rounds aimed directly at the armored personnel carriers, as well as several FPV drone strikes on the flanks of the Ukrainian vehicles.

The reported success of the 47th Mechanized Brigade at Kursk appears to demonstrate the strategic value of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles at the front.
