Unique ruleset for the highly anticipated Mike Tyson and Jake Paul boxing match

Boxing fans have been eagerly awaiting the much-hyped fight between champion fighter Mike Tyson and rising star Jake Paul all year. The fight, originally scheduled for July and rescheduled for November 15, is finally moving forward, but it won’t be a standard boxing match that viewers are used to.

Accordingly, Tyson and Paul will compete in their big fight in eight two-minute rounds CBS Sports. Men’s professional boxing matches usually last between four and twelve rounds of three minutes each, while women’s rounds are set at two minutes. Tyson may be in top fighting shape, but shorter rounds could help the 58-year-old recover between punches.

In addition, the boxers will not use the usual gloves to hit each other. Normal heavyweight fights typically use 10-ounce gloves, but here the two fighters are wearing 14-ounce gloves. Increased cushioning compared to more common 8 and 10 ounce gloves helps reduce the impact of mutual blows.

While it may be a novelty, it won’t be all fun. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has approved his request to approve the fight, meaning the licensed fight will be listed on both Tyson and Paul’s professional records. This will be Tyson’s first officially sanctioned fight since 2005, as his fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020 was an exhibition fight.

Still, with almost 30 years between him and his opponent, Tyson isn’t worried about anything. “Everything I’m afraid of, I confront,” he said Fox News already in April. “And that’s my personality. Right now I’m scared to death. But the closer the fight gets, the less nervous I get because it’s reality. And in reality, I am invincible.”

“This guy is going to come and try to hurt me, which I’m used to. And he will be sorely mistaken,” he boasted.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will stream live on Netflix on November 15th at 8:00 p.m. ET.
