A woman has been charged with two felonies, including attempted murder, following an incident Wednesday evening near a utility work area on Hatteras Island.

According to Dare County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Donnie Varnell, 65-year-old Susan Elizabeth Myers was driving her vehicle near Gingerbread Bakery and Pizza when she allegedly struck an employee of the contractor replacing utility poles in Frisco.

Witnesses stayed with Myers until authorities arrived. Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash in the 52700 block of NC Highway 12 in Frisco around 8:20 p.m

According to Investigator Varnell, one person was taken to Outer Banks Hospital for their injuries and has since been released.

Myers, whose Maryland address is listed in the arrest report but who lives in Frisco, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, and negligent assault with a deadly weapon.

She is being held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bail.

This is a developing story and the Island Free Press will publish more details as they become available.
