Venkateshwara Edara was killed in a crash in Penfield, New York

A Penfield man was killed in a crash on Atlantic Avenue over the weekend, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Venkateshwara Edara, 37, of Penfield, was driving east on Atlantic Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Sunday when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Brendan Hurley said. After his car hit a utility pole, it crashed into the porch of a home in Atlantic, near Five Mile Line Road. The home suffered some structural damage, Hurley said.

Edara died in the crash.

According to his obituary, Edara is survived by his wife Sai and two daughters – an 8-year-old and an 11-month-old – as well as numerous other relatives. “He was also a dedicated family man who was deeply devoted to his wife and daughters,” his obituary states.

“Venkat was known for his vivacious personality and loved for his philanthropy, always ready to lend a hand,” his obituary said. “He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, was an avid film buff and loved traveling and visiting new places.”

He worked at Excellus as a cyber security engineer.

His family started an online fundraiser to help with funeral costs and other “uncertainties,” the Gofundme says. As of Tuesday morning, more than $56,000 had been donated.

A viewing is scheduled Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the James R. Gray Funeral Home, 1530 Buffalo Road, Gates.
