Veterans Day 2024: What’s open and closed in NYC?

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Veterans Day is Monday, November 11th. It is a day originally set aside to commemorate the end of World War I, but now it is a time when our nation pauses to honor all U.S. military veterans.

Parades are held across the country to honor those who have served in all branches of the U.S. military.

The 2024 New York City Veterans Day Parade will take place on Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The parade will march up Fifth Avenue in Manhattan between 25th and 45th Streets and will be broadcast on WABC TV and streamed online.

The parade is expected to feature nearly 300 marching and vehicular units and welcome 20,000 participants from across America, representing every branch of the military and every era.

Below is a list of what will be open and what will be closed on Staten Island on Monday in celebration of Veterans Day.

Federal, state and city offices and courts: Closed.

Staten Island push: Will be published

Banks: Most closed

US stock markets: Open

US Post Offices: Closed

Hygiene: There will be no trash, curbside composting or recycling collection on Veterans Day. Residents who normally receive Monday trash, curbside composting or recycling pickup should place their materials curbside for pickup on Monday evening beginning Tuesday, November 12th. Residents may experience delays in pickup as the Sanitation Department works to collect the backlog of materials.

City Parking Violations Bureau: Parking meter regulations do not apply and stopping, standing and parking are permitted, except in areas where these rules apply seven days a week.

New York Public Library Branches: Closed

Local transport: The Staten Island ferry operates a normal weekday schedule. The Staten Island Railway operates a normal weekday schedule. The buses also run on a weekday schedule.

Public schools: Closed

Department of Motor Vehicles: Closed
