Victor Wembanyama becomes third NBA player with multiple 5×5 games

While he gave his teammates plenty of reasons for celebratory high-fives at the end of the game on Halloween night, Victor Wembanyama’s box score confirmed he also had a different kind of five-by-five in mind. Apparently, Wembanyama dedicated Thursday’s bout to accomplishing tasks that 7-foot-4 players aren’t supposed to handle, giving Salt Lake City sweet treats on the court during the Oct. 31, 2024 victory. Excellence came almost immediately as Wembanyama helped the San Antonio Spurs break free from the metaphorically appropriate “cobwebs” by undoing a slow start with a rebound followed by an audacious coast-to-coast three-pointer. The superstar in silver and black was far from done, delivering his trademark selection of unusually normal performances. Defend both the ball handler and the screener in the pick-and-roll? Using his expansive 8-foot wingspan to both pickpocket point guards and deliver behind-the-back feeds to teammates in transition? Are you joining The Point God for spiritual experiences through over-the-alley connections? The sophomore had it all, against the Utah Jazz, becoming just the third player in league history to pitch multiple five-by-five games. Ironically disguised as “Slenderman” upon his arrival, Wembanyama’s far from slim statistics ended as follows: 25 points (on 9 of 20 shooting), nine rebounds, seven assists, five steals, five blocks, four trifectas and a +43 plus- minus.
