Weeks after the deaths of her mother and sister, Mariah Carey is to be questioned under oath about drug allegations against her brother Morgan

MARIAH Carey is being questioned by lawyers about claims she made in her memoir that her brother Morgan allegedly sold drugs just weeks after their mother and sister died.

According to court documents obtained by The US Sun, a date has been set for the singer to give a videotaped personal statement on January 17 at her brother’s legal team’s law office in New York.

Morgan filed a lawsuit against his younger sister Mariah back in March 2021, claiming that she had written lies about him in her autobiography, “The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.”

Morgan, 64, and Mariah, 55, are believed to have not spoken to each other since 1994 and in the book she calls him her “ex-brother”.

In the best-selling book, Mariah claims her brother was violent towards her, sold drugs while working at a New York nightclub in the 1980s and suggested he was in prison – all claims Morgan denies.

In one passage in the book, she describes an alleged incident in which “12 police officers” had to break up a violent altercation between Morgan and her father.

“I was a little girl and had few memories of a big brother to protect me,” she wrote.

“More often I felt like I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I had to protect my mother from him too.”

In another passage, she describes Morgan as her “sometimes drug-dealing, in-the-system, drunk brother,” implying that he was in prison.

The lawsuit also references another paragraph in the book in which Mariah claims that Morgan “discreetly supplied the beautiful people with their powdered party favors” while he worked at a trendy New York nightclub in the late 1980s, according to his lawyers said that this is “reasonably understood.” Reference to cocaine.

Morgan strenuously denied all allegations, claiming in the lawsuit that she caused him “emotional distress” by printing “false and defamatory, personally intrusive and hurtful” statements about him that caused “serious harm” to his reputation.

“[Morgan] “Brings this action out of sadness and disappointment at his sister’s betrayal and malicious falsehoods rather than anger over them,” the lawsuit states.

“He is by no means jealous of his sister’s enormous artistic and personal success, has enjoyed his own professional and personal successes and has always wished her well.”

A judge dismissed most of the lawsuit in February 2022, but allowed two parts to continue, including the allegation that Morgan was a drug dealer and the suggestion that he had been in prison.

In an affidavit filed in the case in August 2022, Mariah said she stands by her statements “as they are entirely accurate in my own literary style.”

FAMOUS SOURCES

In the same filing, Mariah said she was a “well-known photographer” and a “well-known hairdresser” and that her mother told her that Morgan dealt drugs, saying it was “common knowledge at the time.”

Morgan’s lawyers will now question Mariah in detail about the allegations in a videotaped deposition under oath in late January, according to documents filed Friday in New York.

They have also demanded that the singer provide documents and evidence to support her claims – including the full names and addresses of everyone involved – within the next 20 days.

It’s likely that lawyers will ask Mariah to name the “well-known hairdresser” and “well-known photographer” who she claimed told her her brother sold drugs.

FAMILY AT WAR

The latest court papers were filed just over two months ago since Mariah and Morgan lost their mother Patricia and sister Alison on the same day.

Mariah announced both deaths in a statement on August 26, writing that she was “heartbroken” over the loss of her 87-year-old mother.

“Sadly, my sister lost her life that same day in a tragic turn of events,” she added.

MORGAN’S STATEMENT

Morgan claims he never heard about the deaths from Mariah, but rather from his lawyer.

In a statement, Morgan’s lawyer Richard Altman told The US Sun: “It is disheartening that, in order to portray herself to the public in her ‘tell-all’ book, Mariah fabricated derogatory facts about her brother Morgan, who is still mourning his deaths.” his sister and his mother, deaths that he initially learned about not from her but from her lawyer.

“What’s even more disheartening is that after causing significant harm to Morgan through her words, Mariah is playing the victim.”

“In the end, not only will Mariah have to answer questions under oath about how she intentionally harmed her brother, but the public will also learn the real truth behind their relationship and who the real victim is.”

Mariah’s sister Alison, 63, died of multiple organ failure after struggling with drug addiction, HIV, homelessness and being a victim of violence before her death in Coxsackie, New York.

Statement from Mariah Carey

On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mother Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.

“It breaks my heart that I lost my mother this past weekend,” she began.

“Unfortunately, my sister passed away on the same day in a tragic turn of events.

“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she died.”

“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

She had also filed a lawsuit against Mariah over the book a month before Morgan, claiming it contained lies about her “pimping out” her little sister when she was 12 and giving her Valium.

In the lawsuit, Alison had sought $1.25 million in damages, saying the book contained allegations that were “heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and a wholly unnecessary public humiliation.”

In response, Mariah’s attorneys filed court documents asking Alison to file a detailed complaint “outlining in detail her claims in this lawsuit.”

No further court papers appear to have been filed in the case.

According to friends, despite the lawsuit, Alison wanted to reunite with her sister before her death.

Dying wish

David Baker, Alison’s close friend, previously told the US Sun that she died heartbroken and that they never reconciled as it was her father’s dying wish.

He claims he tried to inform Mariah that Alison was receiving end-of-life hospice care – through the family and through X, but Mariah never got in touch.

“Mariah has now forever rejected the final wishes of both her father and her sister,” David told The US Sun.

When contacted by The US Sun in September, Mariah did not respond to this claim.

The US Sun has reached out to Morgan and Mariah’s representatives for comment on the recent court filings.
