What is closed for Veterans Day in New York City?

Monday marks Veterans Day in the United States, a federal holiday honoring military veterans across all armed forces.

In New York City, all public schools and city and state offices, including postal and DMV offices, will be closed on November 11th.

Most banks, including the New York Stock Exchange, will remain closed for the federal holiday. The New York Public Library branches will also be closed.

The MTA will operate on a regular weekday schedule on holidays.

There is also no trash, recycling or compost collection. If Monday is your usual pickup day, the materials should be placed curbside Monday evening so they can be picked up on Tuesday.

Alternative side parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended for Veterans Day in New York City. All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect, according to the city’s Department of Transportation.

The New York Waterway ferry services also run regularly and military veterans travel free of charge.

Separate from Veterans Day, the NYC Ferry said it will temporarily suspend service to DUMBO Landing on November 11 for scheduled maintenance.

In honor of the armed forces, this year’s New York City Veterans Day Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. Monday and marches up Fifth Avenue in Manhattan between 25th and 45th Streets. The parade is expected to last until 3:30 p.m
