Who could Trump choose as Treasury Secretary?

President-elect Trump will return to the White House after his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in January’s presidential election and will soon begin putting forward nominations for key positions in his Cabinet.

Trump’s selection of him Finance Minister will be important to his economic agenda as he leads negotiations with Congress and foreign governments and conducts business at the Treasury Department and subagencies such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

During Trump’s first term, Steven Mnuchin served as treasury secretary for the four-year term after being confirmed by a vote of 53-47 just weeks after Trump’s inauguration. He came to the job with a background in investment banking and film production and was a prominent fundraiser for the 2016 Trump campaign.

Trump’s nominee for treasury secretary will also have to go through the Senate confirmation process, which is supported by a Republican majority, although it is currently unclear how large the majority and scope Republican senators will have to oppose the nominee. Here’s a look at some of the figures who have been mentioned as potential candidates for finance minister.

However, The New York Times reported last month that Dimon had said privately that he favored Harris for president and opposed Trump’s actions after his defeat in the 2020 election.

Dimon and JPMorgan Chase are in the process of formulating one Succession planning in case he decides to retire. While Dimon, 68, has not yet set a date for his retirement from the bank, he has previously indicated it will likely take less than five years and possibly as long as two and a half years.
